A. 165 Rothwell and a station coolie were despatched by car to convey rations to the Cantonese Sub Inspector Liaison Officer at Tsun Wan. They proceeded through the front line near the junction of Castle Peak Road and the road leading to the Texas Oil Company and continued to the station to discover that the Cantonese Sub Inspector had left and re- turned to Kowloon. The coolie was wounded in the compound and had to be dragged back by Sergeant Rothwell through the Royal Scots lines and then con- veyed by him to the First Aid Post at Kwai Chung. All this was carried out under fire from the enemy and the Royal Scots replying.

His Excellency the Governor visited Station and in- spected the damage and also the damage in Yen Chau Street. Later His Excellency visited Kowloon Police Headquarters.

Unit was despatched to control crowds at the Govern- ment Rice Depot, Western Market, required as there was a big crowd due to rice shops closing in Central and Western districts. Rice shops were instructed to open but refused unless they were given police pro- tection. Police were posted at these shops when they opened and the crowds were controlled.

The district was shelled with a few casualties. The Standard Oil Installation at Lai Chi Kok, K.18 Vital Post, was bombed and the supply line damaged. A big fire was started which after a struggle was controlled by the Fire Brigade. Sham Shui Po Police under Inspector Saunders and the Emergency Unit, Kow- loon attended. In connection with the same inci-

After continued shelling K.18 (Standard Oil Instal- lation) was abandoned by Police Reserve on Vital Post duty, possibly on instructions from Military Authorities. They retired to the World Pencil Factory but were later reposted by Mr. Booker, Assis- tant Superintendent of Police.

A home made bomb exploded without damage outside the Kowloon Motor Bus Company, and a second one was foun on open ground near the Castle Peak Road.
